Default '90 Corrado: What to Watch Out For

Hey guys, I might be trading Russ for his Rado plus some cash, but first I want to see what kind of things I should look out for as far as common problems go. Are they reliable? I could use all the info you can give me. I don't know a lot about G60's, just the basics.

Thanks!

From what I have heard from the local G60 guys in my crew.

I have no idea what the OEM charge cost but they say it's alot. But as far as every thing else the ones with the BB sc kit love the hell out of them no problems

g60's are notorious for having problems with the supercharger...but seeing as how russ has a T3 turbo instead, thats not an issue. also, ive seen this car in person and it is absolutley gorgeous, and ran strong..in addition, russ doesnt beat on it at all, drives it very respectrable-like if i were tired of my VR, this is a swap id definetely be down for, rados are the shit

Probably should have pointed out, it has a T3 turbo. Here are the specs taken from one of Russ' old thread:

From a .:R to a Rado now...I mean something I would watch out for more like be aware is your are buying an older vehicle with looks to be some decent mods. Which will require more TLC and maintenance.

Yeah, I know...but student loans just came and kicked me in the balls, they are higher than expected. At least this has a new engine, tranny, and paint job...

basicly the way i look at it is. the cars are FI stock. and being that a turbo causes alot less stress on the engine, not to mention its ALOT more reliable then a glader. u can stock the boost down to 6-8psi and get around 30mpg.

Not that it applies to his car but a G60 engines usually wear out around 160K, tha charger lasts to about 90K and is several hundred dollars to fix or about $3,000 to buy new.

As for things to look out for on his car in particular are things like broken interior parts and expecially broken lights. Many Corrado parts are different from other VWs and some of them can be hard to find or expensive (once again, particularly the lights). Other things to look for are dead motor mounts (excessive engine movement or vibrations will tell you if they're dead), worn strut bearings (a clunk over bumps gives this one away), a second gear grind which indicates a dead 2nd gear synchro, which is common, and as with any VW... always always always look for cracks in the paint around the strut towers and 'frame rail' crumple zones as well as dents in the bottom of the rockers from people jacking it up wrong. Non functional pop up spoilers are also common.

Something else you always want to look for on any chipped G60 or one with a 3.5bar FPR is an overly rich condition, AKA black smoke, and dark spark plugs. G60 tuning isn't exactly a fine art at this point and more often than not they run rich and smoke.

It sounds liek a dream brand new engine tranny t3 turbo sounds like a good daily driver (turn the boost down to 8 psi) . Then on the wekends you can crank the boost up and dominate the track!

my car has new motor mounts, new front wheel bearings, vr6 suspension (5lug) and coilovers.

also one other things that tend to break on rado's are doorhandles (the little strikers in them break). theres now a guy making metal ones that dont break for $25 ( i already replaced the drivers side because it broke two days after i bought the car haha) and the window regulators. i replaced the passengers side one after i bought it because the window would not go down.

Hey Russ, I've been calling you for the past couple days, but haven't heard back from you. When I try to PM you I get a server error, I'm thinking your inbox is full. Are we still working on this trade? If you don't want ot do it let me know because I have a couple other potential buyers that I have to get back to, but I'm waiting on you. Also, if you don't want my car, but still want to sell the Corrado, I can sell my car to someone else and buy the Corrado from you.

Let me know ASAP.

Thanks.

If anyone knows an email address for Russ, could you please let me know?

F*ck it, I tried calling him 6 times, left 3 voicemails, tried PMing and IMing him, and he never got back to me. If he didn't want to sell me his car he could be polite about it and let me kn ow, but it's okay, now I'm getting the GLI. He can go sell his car and find a MK4 elsewhere.
