Default 71 super beetle choke

I can't find any info on adjusting the choke on my 71 SB with the 34pict-3 carburetor. The chokle closes okay, but takes too long to open up after a cold engine start, thus making the car run on a too rich, mixture for a few miles.

I don't see any adjustment on the electric gizmo on the right side of the carb that controls the opening and closing of the choke plate.

Does the choke element move at all It should rotate in the housing when you loosen up the 3 screws that hold it to the carb. But they get stiff sometimes and need a little persuasion to move What I do is adjust the butterfly so it closes then open it up a tad. If it is to tight it will take to long to warm up and open. The so called choke pull off does not work quite as good as other makes. If this does not work the electric element is probably weak and needs replaced

I had a feeling the inner element of the choke was supposed to turn, but mine doesn't. Can I remove the three screws holding it on, and take it off the carburetor to try to loosen it up, OR WILL ALL SORTS OF LOOSE PARTS COME FLYING OUT WHEN I DO THAT?

Also, what about spraying some WD-40 around the circumfrence of the inner part that is supposed to turn, or will that damage some internal parts?

yes you can pull the 3 screws off and pull out the element. If parts come flying out it is broken it should all be intact. Try loosening up the 3 screws and spraying carb cleaner around it to see if that helps if not pull it out.
