Default 74 Super Beetle Convertible-blinkers & wipers

Hi, new to forum. My husband and I just finished restoring the above car, and I had a couple of questions. The blinkers do not shut off automatically after you take a turn, are they supposed to? I find myself unknowingly driving for miles with the blinker on. If it is supposed to shut itself off, what part needs to be replaced?

Also, the wipers only work on the first click up, which I'm assuming is low, and with the second click up, high, the wipers don't work at all. What needs to be replaced here?

Thanks in advance, it is easier for me to get advice here and get the parts than wait for him to do it!

Hello and welcome
On your turn signals, yes they should cancel after turning the steering wheel. Likely needs the switch replaced, the tangs are made of plastic that turns them off and they break.
On the wipers it could be a poor connection, broken wire, wired wrong. Did they work OK before restoration Or did it just happen, more info needed

Thank you derf, I will order the switch for the blinkers. I'm really not sure if the wipers worked properly before restoration, because when I got it, it was basically an undriveable rusted out junker, and I immediately started stripping it. I called it the Fred Flintstone mobile, because you could stick your feet through the holes in the floor panels. So, I have no idea how the wipers ever worked.

I had a few Flinstone cars
The reason I ask about the wipers working before is that the turn signal switch and wiper switch come out together to replace either one. I'd get out the voltmeter and check for juice at the wiper when you change speeds that way you know if it is the wiper or switch. So if it is the switch you can do both at the same time

thanks derf, i will check that out w/the voltmeter and see what is going on there, great suggestion to avoid taking it apart twice if that's the problem!
