Ok, I have bought my daughter a 72 super beetle. I wanted to install a CD player for her. Well I ran a power wire from the battery to the stereo. Then a ground to the chasis, nothing, no power. I then ran a ground wire from the battery and it worked, but everytime the radio touched metal it sparked. I am lost. How do you install a CD player in this car. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like a ground problem to me. Is it a pull out unit? If you are running it straight off the battery make sure you have an inline fuse and that your daughter shuts it off when not in use.
