Default chatter

Make sure the bowden tube has about a 1" dip in it. It goes from the body to the trans to take up slack as the engine rocks. If no slack, no give = chatter. If that isn't it, I'd suspect the disc. Is it solid or spring loaded?

The disc has springs and they are tight. Where is this bowden tube, can you see it from the top side or underneath? I replaced a lot of engines and clutches in beetles back in the seventies. I cant picture this and do not have car close to look at it. might see it over the weekend so I would like to know what I'm looking for.
Thanks, Ed

The bowden tube is the flexible tube that the clutch cable feeds thru and is attached to the trans on the drivers side(LHD) You can see it from underneath. Just follow the cable where you adjust it, to the trans and you should see it.

Fist off thanks. My tube was straight I placed some washers on it and it worked for a while then I lost some pedal and it started chattering again. I believe my problem is the clutch tube running through the tunnel broke loose inside. also its a dune buggy that was shortened so not sure how they resectioned it. At least I know what I'm looking for. Thanks again

At least you found the problem now the fix? The tube inside the tunnel needs to be spot welded down in three places,1 at the front to the cross brace that goes side to side, 2 in the center, about 1/2 way(to keep it from flexing) and 3 at the rear. if you pull off the inspection plate to access shift coupler you will see where it exits the tunnel. Being it is a dune buggy you don't know what the PO did to shorten it. Good luck
