fitted a brand new dynamo to my van engine and after a month the generator warning light comes on! checked the dynamo..no electric current at all! Got a tip to charge the field using the positive from the battery by touching a wire to the D+ side a few times and this fixed the problem...only again after a month the light back on ...same problem! Do I need to charge the coils another way? what could be making it lose its field? anyone..?

I'd be willing to be that you got a bad generator - there used to be alternator conversion kits - which allowed you to have a better electrical supply for your AC - you might want to check into that - for the generators the 'charging' method was typically a temporary fix - there's something amiss in your generator if you're not creating current -
