Default Firewall Insulation

Hello,

I have a 69 bug that I'm replacing the engine firewall insulation. I ordered a standard 3 piece rubber type kit from JBUGS but it didn't come with instructions. Does anyone know how to properly install this kit.

Thanks,
Randall

Default firewall

1st pull engine Then you can see the tangs that hold the old firewall in place. Bend them out and pull off the old stuff. Put on new stuff and bend tangs back. Install engine, done. Just be careful as those tangs are sharp and like to leave their mark

Default Firewall Insulation

Hey Derf,

Thanks for the reponse. I have the engine out and have torn out the old insulation and saw the tangs. I also saw that there looked to be double sided tape that helped hold the insulation in place. The new insulation looks to have a film (on both sides) that may peel off to help hold the insulation on, but I wasn't sure if that was all there was to it. I didn't think that just the tangs would be a good snug fit that would last. I think I will try some kind of double sided along with the tangs to insure a good fit. Have any recommendations on tape or do you think just the tangs and the adhesive backing will hold?

Randall

Tangs should hold it as long as they are all in place especially the ones directly behind the fan intake. Are you sure it is sticky when you pull off the film from new insulation? And the firewall has to be real clean for anything to stick to it.
The only thing VW used was a felt strip on the ribs. If it has anything else, it was done by a PO
