Gen Pulleys are not all created equal
The Gen on my 1970 Bug died so I replaced it with another 12 volt Gen from a 1971 motor that I have. This spare motor was recently rebuilt and the generator had a belt on it that lined up with the big pulley below. When we placed the new Gen on the 1970 Bug the pulley would not line up with the engine pulley! The pulley is super heavy duty and has two different size tabs on it to keep from putting pressure on the weld I suppose. Looking at the back of this pulley , it is totally different than the one that came off the old Gen. Convex vs concave! Had to buy a new pulley! I don't understand since these pulleys are all interchanable, at least that is what I thought! Can anyone help explain this anomaly?
