Default i want to find out value of 70 beetle, newb, help

my great aunt inherited a 70 beetle from her friend the original owner,it has been randomly started and driven but mostly has sat under car cover for 4-5 years.i told her i would check it over and eventually try to sell it for her.i checked it out 5-16-08. i'm new to beetles,i know more about fords but anyhow this is what i found. the pros are: 1.it runs good no smoke.2.steering seems good 3.body looks good except rust underneath 4.i beleive she still has original papers 5.interior good condition, now the cons are: 1.brakes are dragging and they don't stop you very well 2.the rust underneath 3.i filled it with fresh gas and later on smelled gas in cab,not coming from under hood though i beleive from tank, i didn't see a leak but it had been raining and i didn't have a jack to look further.i wanted to know if i should sell it for her as is or start putting money in it to make it better but i don't know bodywork and i imagine it will cost her.i also wanted to know what is a reasonable price to ask for it.i thank this forum and the people in it for helping me and i am really not posting this in hopes i sell it to ya'll i know that kind of thing goes in the for sale section. also the tires have good tread but are dry rotted

Just bought a Standard 1970 today. Restored a 64 several years ago. Great little car.

This one is very clean. Needs a little TLC but not much. New tires, interior is perfect. Headliner is great. Probably biggest issue is that it will need new seals sometime. Big Suprise. Paid $2500. Had the brakes, trans and a quicky paint job. Fun Car!

It mostly depends on the condition of the car. I just totally restored a '72 super beetle new factory new engine and rebuild trans. The only thing that it needed was a paint job and he sold it for $7000.00. But you have to figure he almost had that amount into it. If you are planning on selling it, you should at least get it tuned up and running, and fix the brakes or it won't be worth much at all.
