Default More Idle Problems with my '71

My '71 Super Beetle runs fine, and starts fine, and idles at a good speed, but at every traffic light, the idle runs slower and slower and in about 5 seconds, the engine stops. Immediately restarts, and at the next traffic light, it stalls again.

I've checked the choke and it seems to be operating fine, or at least the butterfly is open when the engine is warm. So I don't think it is choking when the car comes to a stop.

Any ideas for someone not real inclined to taking the carb apart.

I would recommend you take it to a shop and have all the tune-up related parts checked paying real close attention to the distributor advance unit and carb adjustment and for vacuum leaks

Thanks for your reply. I also had decided to go to a shop and I called a mechanic who knew what the problem was right away and I will be bringing the car over this week. As simple as that car is, I just can't figure out the carburetor.

So the mechanic knew just from your phone call what the problem is? Let us know if the mechanic was right and what he found the problem to be.
Good call to take it to a shop if you don't understand some things
