need info on 61 beetle ragtop

I'm trying to sell a car for my friends dad. It's a 1961 beetle ragtop. I don't know much about these cars and was hopeing someone here could help me out. It's no complete restoration but it's in great shape. It's red with white interior and top. I'm planning on driving it to a VW show around chicago next weekend (not looking forward to the 6 hour drive) and i'd like some information so i know what i'm talking about. So if anyone has a link to a good website or information themselves. He thinks it's worth 17500 but that seems high to me.
