Default NEWB ...GEN Light

I'm looking at purchasing a street legal buggy. Not familiar with VW. The GEN light is on. Is this a simple alternator remove and replace? Is the alternator still available at local part stores?

Does it have a gen or alt? Might be as simple as a fuse. Does the oil light come on with the key also? It is best to put on a voltmeter to see what is happening. Should be able to get parts at flaps but I'd try to find one that deals in imports if you can. Sometimes the quality is better. My opinion.

Think it's a stock 1968 engine. Not sure of the size. Think its a generator. All the lights come on before you start the engine.
Also what is a "flaps"

Thanks
