Default Owner's Manual for '71 Beetle

New Guy here, with first post. Just bought a '71 convertible and since the manual that came with the car was watersoaked and unreadable, I downloaded and printed out a manual from the internet.

The manual says 1971, and my car is registered as a 1971, and the build date on the door jamb is 6/71, but there are a few things in the manual that don't match my car.

Can anyone explain that? Could it be that there was an early and a later owner's manual for the 1971 year or a different version for European cars and USA cars?

Any ideas?

What sort of things don't match? VW was good for changing stuff in the production year.

I will have to get the owner manual back from my storage garage a mile away and go through it again and then list the differences.

I might have exagerated the differences. All I could find now is that the manual shows a push/pull lever on the steering column for the wiper/washer.

My car has a button on the dash - turn for wiper, push the center for the washer.

What do you think?

71 was the last year for the wiper switch in the dash 72> has switch on stalk. Sounds like you have the wrong manual. Go to TheSamba.com :: Volkswagen Classifieds, photos, shows, forums, and information
lots of manual there to look at for your car. 6/71 would be a 71 so your right on the year.
