hi gang,
i spent a while on the internet trying to find out where i can race my 73 super. i didn't find a thing i want to get into auto x and pro racing, and i want to heavily modify my car. (enlarge to 2L, porsche brakes, fuel injection...) so, here are the questions... where can i race a 73 beetle? what class can i race the thing? where are these races held? how modified can my ride be? how much? does anyone know? i know i can race the thing in auto x, probably as a 'prepared e' or 'f' class. but i want to get into pro racing with my bug too. so. who? what? where? when? how? ..... |

If you're in the states - check out the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) -their rules are pretty straight forward One thing though - the modified classes get hyper-competitive - and a bit more restrictive as well which can also be interpreted as expensive - so read the rule book and then figure out if your wallet can support your ambitions.
Pro racing typically follows a more restrictive formula and doesn't embrace as many vehicles or types - however - a '73 may qualify for vintage. It's been a number of years since I ran anything in SCCA - and even then it was rally - in a water cooled bunny. The only refrence I can find for a Superbeetle is for ITC/F - http://www.scca.org/_FileLibrary/File/GCR2007.pdf on page 351 - and it's stock. |
