Is there a spacer between the pulley and the generator on a 12 volt Generator???
I would use a screwdriver in the cutout on the pulley in order to hold the pulley while I backed off the nut. This worked for awhile until I noticed the screwdriver would no longer fit between the Gen and the pulley. Then things started to happen like the pulley came apart(3 pieces!) and the pulley was rubbing on the Gen face and wearing it off! Bought a new pulley and it hit the Gen. also! Finally had to make a spacer out of a 1/2 inch diameter cooper pipe coupler. That worked! It keeps the pulley far enough off the bearing that it does not hit the generator anymore. A tech support guy at one of the parts houses says there is a spacer that does what my 1/8" pipe does. Cannot find this part anywhere. Thanks Capt Bob My Bug is a 1970 Type I. |
