Default Seatbelts in a 56 bug - safe or sacrilege??

Hi everyone! I'm looking for advice and opinions on installing 3 point seatbelts in my beetle (it's unrestored, nice and original!). It's had 2 point seatbelts installed in the front at some stage. I don't want to ruin a stock beetle but I'd like a bit of modern safety too!! Any ideas? Thanks in advance

I was in a 70mph head on crash with a 2pt belt. I hit the steering wheel hard enough to stamp "Nova" backwards into my chest. That was in a 3200lb car. I'm still alive.

I seriously doubt a shoulder strap is going to save your hide in a type 1. Personally I'd stick with the 2pt.

I wouldn't upgrade the belts - you'd be going to a lot of effort for very little, if any, real return in safety.

Default Seatbelts

I agree that the 2 point belts should be fine for most situations and to keep the old guy or gal looking as authentic as possible.
