It was no secret, it had to happen and now it’s here for you to look at: The 2013 Volkswagen Beetle convertible is out for all to see.

Set to make its official debut during the L.A. Auto Show in November, Volkswagen just dropped the virtual cloth. Like its coupe counterpart, the cabrio will come with three engine options. A 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder with 170 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque starts the pack, but there’s also the same 2.0-liter turbocharged unit with 200 hp and 207 lb-ft. If gas isn’t your thing, there’s also the diesel model with 140 hp and a range-topping 236 lb-ft of torque on tap.

But better still, drivers will be allowed to choose between a six-speed dual-clutch or six-speed manual transmission neither of which are restricted to a particular fuel type, though the manual-diesel combo is said to make 41 mpg.

Just as the 2011-launched coupe did, this car takes the New Beetle that became an ironic misnomer by the end of its extensive lifecycle and gives it a much-needed makeover. In this case, that means a soft top that drops in 10 seconds and looks less like a rolled up carpet strapped on with bungee cords and more like a spoiler.

Pricing isn’t announced yet, but the car is set to strut its stuff in about a month’s time, so more information is sure to be here soon.
