my views:

i am a conservative libertarian. do what you want, i don't care. BUT, the way i look at this subject...

civil unions: i don't have a problem with. be with who you want. we are endowed to the pursuit of happiness and if thats what makes you happy then so be it.

but, to call it marriage is anotehr issue. marriage, at least when i think of it, is the union of two people in the eyes of a church. whether you like it or not, most churches are not ok with it. to force them to accept it blatantly violates the separation of church in state. you can not make a church accept something they don't like. if they want to, fine, a church can believe what you want. but you can not make them.

before any of that though, i think this should be decided on a state by state basis. what works in san francisco may not work in texas. the federal gov't has no business even being involved.

If it doesn't affect me, I don't really care. For the government to say "No you can't get married because you're different than the rest of us" is complete bullshit. I think much like the whole civil rights movement, the gay rights movement will be justified and people will look back and say "Wow, I can't believe we let that shit fly", much like the whole segregation thing
