Exclamation My new...old ride

In a follow-up to this thread Back to my roots I would like to introduce my 1963 Beetle. I picked it up today from North Jersey, only two minor snags towing it back (had to tow it since we didn't have the title transferred and plates). Here are some additional notes on the car:
- Originally from Massachusetts
- All original parts, chrome, engine etc.
- Paint is not perfect but resprayed once to original colors
- Original interior
- 137K on the dial
- 1200cc, 6 volt
- Rag Top (Frikin' Slayer!!!)
- AM Radio...you know it
- Heat works, AC too (the ragtop)
- Drum Brakes
- Has original jack & owner's manual

Also snapped a few pixors, taking the family for a ride around the block. Will snap some more glam shots once I get the title transfer and my antique plate.

Dad's Happy

Ummm Dad are you sure this thing has airbags?

Off we go...has a spot patch job, at bottom of door, like I said the paint is not perfect I plan to redue within the year. My goal was to find something that I could drive right away and was original and solid.

Daily Driver M-F; Daily Driver Sat-Sun

1200cc of raw 40hp!!!

Profiling

The AC

Dad you are telling me the engine is in the back of these things?

Pimp Dash

Should have it at Volksfest incase anyone wants to peep in person. I am totally stoked to being driving air-cooled again! The best way I can describe it is...it feels like time slows down and everything is in slow motion. Mainly b/c the car is slow, but since there is nothing power about the car it's like you have rewound your watch 50 years ago. You just can't help to smile while you drive it.

Thanks for the comments guys, for now I plan to look everything over to make sure everything is in working order. It seems it is, but I want to pull the drums to see the brakes, they guys said they are new pads but I want to do some deeper inspection on the car to make sure everything is solid that I physically can’t see. I am getting the title transferred this weekend and hopefully the antique plate will be here within 1-2 weeks as well. It will be nice to have at least once car that won’t need inspection

My initial plans are just to clean it up ya know wax, spit shine interior and motor. Then enjoy it over the summer, if I sell some of my other parts I plan to get 5 Spoke Chrome Empi’s and new tires. The rims on it now are not perfect in fact I think they are the originals as well. Tires are getting dry rotted around the valve stems too. So if anything this year will be about enjoyment and maybe new rims and tires, and any little replacement trinkets I find at some local shows.

I really do not plan to show it, but I will probably take it to some local GTGs or shows. I mainly bought it to zip around town on the weekends, take it for Ice Cream or the drive-ins.

Next year or perhaps over the winter if I work out this deal, I may have the paint redone. Same colors want to keep the OEM colors but make the body perfect. Then lastly the seats, headliner, carpet would be replaced. Same deal keeping it OEM but just NOS parts, my Dad would do the interior.

Heat – Yeah it has the working heater channels and controls, but the tubes are off the back. I doubt I ever will use the heat since it’s strictly a summer car.

Smile

Did some clean-up today after I got the title switched over along with a temp plate until the Antique tag comes in. Minors tune ups, a spit shine and switched out the amber turn signals with clear and replaced the rusty pea shooter pipes with fresh chrome ones. Had a blast driving it around in the warm weather.

Beep Beep

Clear Turns help pull the front lights together

Cleaned up, can't wait to color match that damn door, sticks out like a sore thumb to me

PA Plates = Ugly

Shoot em' up!!! ($10 for new chrome tips haha gotta love cheap NOS parts)
