Default A4 Downfalls

I'm considering buying a 2003 A4 1.8t. What are the common problems with these vehicles?

Not all that many, alot of the b5 problems were fixed on the b6. Around 70k miles tho a good bit of one time maintance is needed. After that, they are a solid strong car. I have 120k and besides the mornal maintence shit, its a solid car.

Are you kidding? They are ~200lbs heavier then a b5 and have similar power... Stg1+ chipped with roll dead even of not beat a mk4 chipped.

Guys with ko4's have easily gotten b6's into high 13's with equal mods as a mk4.

Have to agree with Dakoda on this one. Drove Ian's (EurostylzMK4) dad's, and it really didn't seem too slow. And the one that I drove at work didn't either. I would have say that either one could beat a 2.0 with out a problem. And the quattro in Ian's was prolly the best feeling stock shifter i have ever driven. Nice weight, nice crisp feel. And any "sluggish" feel could definitely be cured by a chip.

no im not kidding, im dead serious. the b6 1.8T A4 is a dog stock. im not talking about k04s or any shit, im talking stock. chipped they are still kinda slow.

btw, the b6 1.8T only has 170hp stock. its really god damn slow, slow enough with the gearing of the 6mt for my dad to want to get rid of the car.

I have a 150hp 5spd with a 20% drivetrain loss. How can it possibly be that slow. 2.0's could not possibly beat it unless its in a rabbit or something. Its a luxary car! not a sports car. If you want the power get the s4, the cars look sick and perform very well. Simple chiped one will walk my car....

Im just stating what ive seen from experience, i raced a 1.8t b5 quatro from a dead stop and took him by a car length, the only thing was it was a auto, so that might be a huge difference. The guy even asked me what i had under the hood... The b6 and 150 hp b5 should be about equal because one has more weight and a little more power, and the b5 weighs less but has less power.

I am by no means saying to not get a b6 a4, they are awsome cars, great interior, comforatable, and good looking. With a chip 14s and low 15s are cake, and with a bigger turbo they can keep up witht he best mkIVs.

I wasnt too impressed with Ian's dad's car. The shifter was decent, but nothing compared to my GTI. The power was definately more sluggish than I remember my GLI being stock. I know the weight difference and such, but it still felt rather slow. I wouldn't go and say a 2.0 could beat it, but I wouldn't say it was fast at all.

well thats fine, but the a4 we had was slow as hell. it was a good car, nothing mechanically wrong with it, just slow.

why cant you just accept the fact that i think its slow and the fact that i have infact driven the b6 1.8T a4 many times and that it is indeed slow.

i even got the car chipped for my mom (her DD) and it really didnt help a whole lot. yeah, it had more torque and power, but the damn thing ran outta puff soooo quickly. with the weight and drivetrain loss, it was hard to keep the car in 6th gear. unless you were driving at 70mph+ 6th was useless because there was almost no acceleration below 60-65mph.

to the OP, if you have a chance to get the car and its in decent shape, by all means get it. its a great car for the money, but it will take some work to become "sporty".

I am considering the A4 because I'm graduating college and getting a professional job with the Department of Defense.

I have simply grown out of my GTi... I still love her... but she is getting on with age (134k) and is becoming too demanding...

I would love to keep her for the weekends, but it's not just not in the cards.

The A4 will never perform like my GTi because not as much will be invested in it.

I've been in the Army for 9 years, I'm re-enlisting in the Guard (yeah... I know) for 6 more years. As far as the job, I'm looking at PsyOPs because of my interest and degree in Psycho-ology. Another option I am exploring is to be a liason to United Defense(York, Pa) for the DOD, because of my experience on M1's, Brads, and 113's.

Whatever gives me the most loot... I have expensive habits...

i think the b6 is the sexiest body style audi has made...i only ever drove a v6 with exhaust and chip and it moved nicley...i can seen how a 1.8t would be sluggish in that car
