Don't know about that one buddy. That was the early to mid 80's, that could of happened with any car, I think they stopped because they were band because of Quattro, just like many other racing series, it just comes down to audi being too good. That and I don't really think they had a suitable car for rally purposes in the early 90's, correct me if I'm wrong....FIA started fineing spectators if they went on the track, its the same as if some whacko was running across the track during the 24 Hrs. of Le Mans, would they start banning audis because they hit someone, no, its the spectators fault, most of them were photographers anyways.....

No one said they were banned from rally. Ford and Audi both dropped out of rally because of crowd control issues. When they got the crowds controlled Ford went back. Audi was too busy getting kicked out of road racing and VAG had the Seat/Skoda/VW rally cars to worry about.

Being kicked out because of Quattro would be retarded. All teams (except Mitsu, who currently sucks) run fully adjustable computer controlled diffs right now. If anything, Audi doesn't have a system capable of keeping up. They were getting kicked out of other series because no one else had AWD.

Ok, I've never heard of that but i'm not doubting you. I've been to FIA WRC rallies before (Rally of Acrolpolis, midpoint of the season) and follow it regularly on Speed/Internet, its my favorite form of racing. I just searched a little and found 2 different sources that both state that..... WRC Group B cars were banned in 1987, (Group B-No weight limitations, no power linimtaions, advaced products allowed, pretty much anything goes...), as soon as that happened, AUDI just left the whole International Rally scene because of this (Since all their cars were group B) and also the death of AUDI rally driver Bobby Unser in Portugal kind of triggered them not wanting to go back. I can PM you the links to look over if you want, its not a big deal really though haha.

Yeah, Group B went away because too many people were dying outright... drivers and spectators, and much of what Audi was running was Group B, not all of it. They were using things like 5000s, 100s, 200s, UrQuattros, etc in other classes or Rally as well.

They actually let an old Group B car into an SCCA Club Rally out here in WA a couple years ago. First day, first stage, first turn, first car out... slid off a turn into a tree sideways and killed the driver and co-driver. It's pretty understandable why Group B went away.

Either way... sucks they never wanted to go back. Would have been cool to see an A3 WRC car since most of the research was already taken care of in the MK4 Golf Kit Car.
