Hi,
Just thought I would start out here after reading your 1.8T for Noobs sticky. I am buying my first VW next week from someone at work. It is a 2000 Jetta 1.8T 5 speed with 82000 miles. I am buying it for a daily driver that I might enjoy to drive. I am not looking for a super fast car just something I can have a little fun with get decient milage and have NP passing a slow car on a 2 lane road. The PO just had a shop install a new head, water pump, timing belt and tentioner but wants to buy a newer Toyota because she dosent trust the car anymore. I have test driven the car 2 times and I have to say it seems pretty peppy for only 1.8 liters and seems to hold the road pretty well. Only minor things I see off the bat are, 1. is it common for the shifter to feel a touch sloppy, and are new bushings easy to install? 2. I don't like the aftermarket stereo that was installed are the stock ones and good and are they easily available?

It's not you. It's the fact that this site is now run by a large, non-VW enthused conglomerate of incompetence.

You're going to enjoy the car and check the classifieds on VWVortex.com for a stock stereo to replace the aftermarket one that's in the car.

Hey, welcome to the site. My sister had a jetta for many years that she rarely had problems with and when she did I believe they were all minor. Any pics of the car? Any planned upgrades or mods?
