Default 2006 VW Jetta cooling fan for ac stopped working

I have a 2006 Jetta and the check engine light came on. After taking the car to get the code tested I found out it had something to do with the cooling fan. Aftewards I found out the smaller of the two cooling fans was not working. The ac also is making a humming sound when on high.

I am trying to figure if there is a fuse I can check. Or how to narrow down the issue.

This all started after my car was broken into. I don't know If this is unrelated or not. I had a pioneer d3/ xm radio and iPod hook up stolen. I don't see how the two cld be related and I don't think they are.

Car is at 55k miles so basically out of waranty by 5k miles.

Bli182nk:

I have the same problem, same model, 56K miles. Nothing abnormal (i.e. break-ins, etc.) happened to the car prior to this issue. I have spoken to a couple of mechanics, who say it is not any kind of fuse or anything but both fans need to be replaced. $941.

Mine is out of warranty too, but I called the customer car number today on VWs website to "politely" express my frustration and I requested that they help me out, being that the car is barely out of warranty. I haven't heard back from them yet, but I would say it is at least worth a try.

I would be surprised if both cooling fans have to be replaced, but it is pretty common to have one fail. Most often the right side. If you have had your scheduled maintenance performed at a VW dealer, the service manager may go to bat for you with Volkswagen for a goodwill repair. If not, they typically aren't very willing to assist.

Good luck,
