Default Dial inside glove box does what

My jetta 08 has a little dial inside the glove box (on the roof of the box when it's open). On its rim, the dial has a mirror sign and a snowflake/crystal sign, they are about an inch apart, and there is a line/arrow connecting the two signs. I can rotate it just about a quarter (maybe 1/3) of a full turn.

Is it for adjusting the temperature inside the glove compartment? Or does it have something to do with the mirrors?

I googled it and came across references to "refrigerated glove box" but nothing that specifically addresses the dial; I contacted the dealership but they didn't know either.

The dial controls conditioned air into the glove compartment.

That is awesome! Leave it to VW to come up with crazy features like a climate controlled glove box!

I wouldn't call it a refrigerated glove box.
I doubt there is any cold air if you dont run the A/C and only have the heat on.
