You just use this forum to make yourself feel important and act like you have any real knowledge about vw's.

You prob stay off the text because you know you would be called out on your repetitious hearsay as fast as you could produce it.

Run along little boy.
First off the only reason I hang out on this forum is because I really liked the people that were on it when I first started posting on it, and I'd hate for people asking for some help to not have someone there to get to them just because the original owner of this site sold out and it went to shit. I don't do it to make me feel special, I do it because I love Volkswagens and it's a group of enthusiasts who are generally not assholes, with the occasional one such as yourself thrown into the group. I repeat what other people have said because of a few simple facts:

1. Most new posts are repetitive
2. Most new users refuse/won't use the search function
3. A lot of people get sick of answering the same questions
4. Although common knowledge to some people, a lot of questions I've answered the OP didn't know the answer to

I used to do this as a favor to those who taught me a little bit when I first joined because I know how frustrating it gets to repeat yourself a thousand times to each new member, NOT to make me feel better. I don't need to be a VW gearhead to answer a lot of the questions that come up on this site, so I do my best to help them. Half of knowledge is gained out of experience and half of it is gained from learning from watching, or reading in the case of this forum. I like how you make remarks towards the OP about him designating you as part of the younger crowd yet you tell me to "run along little boy" in a very condescending manner. I don't know where you came from but your head is way bigger than it should be if you think I come on here to impress people such as yourself, or any other member.

Well if me posting information based on actual knowledge and experience, as well as not wanting others to make costly mistakes because of your uneducated dribble gives me the title of "big headed", Ill wear it with pride.

Thanks. I love me some Disco Tire!

TTTTurbo1.8T and Golfzex: here is a new question for you.

So on some cars neat features are disabled in the software but the hardwiring is already there. For example: I had a 2003 Land Rover Discovery II. It didnt come with heated seats, but the seats had all the wiring bc its just cheaper to manufacture that way. So I only had to pay about $50 to get switches, and presto i had a $300 option.

On my R32, it doesnt seem to have a compass in the MDF, although the owners manual alludes to this being a feature on some cars. I wonder how cost effective that is for a company that seems to try to maximize component re-use across platforms as much as possible... and so I wonder if the capability may be there, waiting to be enabled... Do you guys know if there is a secret sequence of MDF menu commands, buttons pressed, or whatever that will activate the compass in the MDF display?

Im sure there is. On my TT there was about 30 different readings I could access with a button sequence on the Climate Control. Also you may be able to access it by using VAGCOM.

Also search on vwvortex in the mk5 R32 forum.

will do... it just stands to reason since an electronic compass is simply a sensor and chip on a circuit board... will let people know if i find anything...

what is vagcom?

How the fuck is that only the difference(tranny, front bumper, grill, headlights, side skirts, interior, should I keep going?) and how the fuck is the rabbit glorified? Its an entry level economy car and thats how it is marketed, just like the golf.

I wish people wouldnt talk just for the sake of posting in a thread.

searched VW Vortex and unforunately people are pretty sure the compass is not a feature awaiting to be enabled on an R32. if you dont have NAV, you dont have the hardware for the compass apparently.

also i figured out what vagcom is, so disregard that question. pretty cool pricing model in that looks like they really charge you for the cable, not for the software.

Nice buy on the r32, but for that Kinda money any reason why you didn't consider an Audi? I only ask because I just bought a 2006 GLi 6spd with package 2, traded down from a 2003 Audi A6 2.7 Twin Turbo 6spd chipped with GIAC with only 40k on it. Was only getting 18mpg highway. Now I am getting 31-33 with the GLI on 89 gas so i am saving a ton of money.

I would have a hard time spending 31k on Suped up Golf. No offense i like VW's and all, but as for spending 31k whynot go Audi? Just curious, enjoy the R32 though

yeah its a good question...

i probly could have bought an A4, but to get 3.2 quattro you start runnning into 36K plus... I also considered a 325, and at one point even an M3. i also looked at Minis, accord coupes... and then I started looking at VW and found I really liked the Rabbit.

I kind of backed into getting the R32 - I was going to get a Rabbit for fuel economy and low price. Then I figured i'd get a GTI to be more fun to drive... but then i wanted all the luxury features and wanted to get rid of interlagos cloth, and ... pretty soon i was up to a 29K GTI and couldn't find the exact combination of colors and features anywhere. Then I found a dealer who offered for 2K more than the loaded GTI I could not find, the R32 in the gray color I wanted. thats the short answer.

The longer answer is more philosophical... I also like Audis. My wife had an A4 1998 1.8T Quattro and I had a 2000 A6 2.7T Quattro. That was probably the most expensive car i've bought, and had the least problems, seemed best built. It had every feature you could get. What a car. Mileage was only so-so. Mostly because the car demanded to be driven fast. I got rid of it in '03 and got into land rovers, had an 03 Discovery for a while, wife got an SLK 230, then we had a kid so SLK got traded for Lexus. Then I got into repairing used cars and we have at one time or another had an '87 560 SL red over saddle leather (sold), then a 97 S420 (we still have), a 1991 Range Rover (still have) and a 2000 Range Rover (sold - terrible mileage and always demanding most costly repairs)..... anyway a long story... i guess my point, if i have one is that after taking apart Mercedes v8 engine (the 560), doing ignition coil replacemetns (the 420), ignition coil pack and air suspension work (2000 range rover), and a 3 year long restoration including body work, floor pans, rust repair, paint, electrical, AC, stereo, interior re-upholstery, headliner, re-veneering woodwork, bumpers, winch, etc etc on the 1991 Range Rover I kind of feel like I've seen the best and some of the worst the industry has to offer. From perspective of part qualities, build qualities, whats common across brands, what is unique/better about others. Anyway I said to myself: I am sick of repairing this 2000 RR. The 1991 is like almost new now. The wife's 97 s class is all working again ... I want a good dependable car that will get twice as good mileage as I am getting in this SUV, that wont have a car loan, and will be fun to drive.

The R32, more than the GTI and almost as expensive as an A4 3.2 Quattro, was less than a john cooper works Mini, less than a loaded Accord V6 Coupe, and just kind of fit exactly into what I was looking for...

Congrats on the R32.

I also bought one. I first had a 07 Fahrenheit. But when my dealer received the CW R, I upgraded right away. Sure I lost mpg but, I enjoy the ride and handling much better.
I love the R and have no regrets.

Good luck and enjoy.
