Default Love the 2.0T

09 Jetta 2.0T - the engine is fantastic - smooth as silk at idle and gobs of power to accellerate. I love the oil filter on top and the timing chain. Looking over the engine spec, it shows an after run coolant pump to protect the turbo when you turn off the engine. when does this run ? I assume it's temperature controlled. The write-up says it engages based on certain "character maps".

love my 09 jetta with the turbo as well. fyi on your after-run question..i didn't realize it was a cooling..i do occasionally engage what i thought was the fans, based on the noise, continuing to run after i've shut the car off. in 7299 km since i bought it in june, i've had that happen about 6 times i'd say..first time it freaked the heck out of me as i hadn't read about how it works. i had read that it's good to idle the car for 1 minute if coming off a hard run..i suspect they put this in as a "no choice but to use it" safety measure which i think is smarter and probably has saved vw from replacing more than one turbo on warranty i think whatever it is that is running, is running for about 1-2 minutes then auto shuts off. seems to work well. i have tried to find a firm relationship between air temp and this function, but it's happened on cool days, happened on hot days, short and long trips..i do think it's more about how hard you've been accelerating etc.
