Default mk5 golfs badged "Rabbit"

http://media.vw.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=9881

Interesting move by VWoA marketing. I'm not too sure what to think of it. I'm wondering if the 2.0t 4-doors will be badged Rabbit GTI?

discuss.

the mk1 forum on the tex seems pretty pissed about the whole thing. i think it's funny that they're pissed. the guys in the mk1 forum gotta realize that vw can't sell anything near what the mk1 was here anymore, too many safety regulations and bs they gotta worry about, i'm sure if vw could they would, since they do it in south africa, as everyone knows. i think they could have made the mk5's smaller though, and lighter, i understand they're not going to be 2000lbs cars like mk1's, but god damn they're heavy, and the time i was cruising beside a mk5 gli on market street, i was afraid i'd never see the sun again, it cast quite a shadow on my little car. oh well, mk1 guys can complain all they want about the new rabbit, if they don't like they don't need to buy it.

i will agree that the mk5's are big cars, jetta is as big as a passat almost, and gti is huge, cars are much taller than i thought they'd be, should have kept them small yet safe, especially knowing they'll sport the rabbit badge.

Yea VW's got bigger, and bigger over the years. but there is nothing VW can do about it. I mean maybe some small things. but you cant just keep the same small desgn and things and expect to sell, when the next compeny is changing every year, and keeping people guessing on what they are doing next. So this was expected. I mean I think its ugly, fat, disgrace, and so on. but I aint going to cry, and complain when it was expected and there is nothing to do. Unless someday I become head designer, or part owner of VW and change everyhting to the standards of the true dubbers, and ethuasiast. But that will never happen, so we gotta live with it. But I honestly believe they didnt have to go from tiny little pocket rockets, to giant "boats" that sit as high as the moon. Plus VW's were based around autocross, and racing, and no they have them stanced if they are made to go off-roading in the mud.

They shouldve never stopped calling them rabbits to begin with

A big plus for me though, this will mean not having to go ebay-lurking or paying $100+ for a 20thAnniv GTI emblems for the bunny logo
