Post Need Advice-Purchase Ext. Warranty 08 Rabbit?

PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR ADVISE AND OPINIONS:

I purchased a 2008 VW Rabbit, automatic, with 35,500 miles yesterday. It still has the remainder of the original warranty - (48/60,000 I think). I only put about 5,000 miles per year on my cars at most. I have until Monday morning to decide if I want to buy an exended bumper to bumper warranty thru Toyota for $1,775 that would give me about 6.5 years longer. I will have the car for a long time.

Should I buy the extended warranty? I have always had Hondas and Toyotas and I never felt the need to buy extended warranties because of their reliability.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I'm new here. I love my new Rabbit!

if you do not work on Cars youself it may not be a bad idea. 1795 over 6.5 years for any repairs is only 276ish a year and 23 ish a month. Piece of mind and security is not a bad thing for 23 a month. I did not buy one and dumped 2k into a clutch repair within a month of buying the car.
My only question is...would your Toyota dealer be able to properly repair your car...I bought my car from a Nissan dealer used and when my trans had issue 35 days after purchase they denied resposibilty and even said " I would not even feel comfortable working on that transmission".

It is not like it was built by NASA,but some dealers only really know their cars and not much else.

With most warranties the work can be done at any facility. I purchased from a Mazda dealer today and they said for some work they'll send you over to to the VW dealer.

You should also be able to use any mechanic of your choice. I prefer that approach myself. At a dealer you never get to talk to the mechanic doing the work. I like to go to the places where the mechanic owns the business, loves his work and lets you into the garage to see what's going on. With a dealer everything is such a mystery once your car disappears past the concierge's booth.

Having been an Audi owner, I can tell you that Germans don't engineer cars to be easy to work on. So the labor costs can be high when something goes wrong. That and German parts come at a premium.
