Default New TDI Jetta - Reliability?

I've been reading up on the new ~60MPG TDI Jetta and am very interested in purchasing one when they come out. However, I keep hearing very bad things about newer VW reliability and the cost of repairs.

What is the general consensus on VW reliability these days, and specifically Mexico-built Jettas shipped to the US?

Are the electronics in Jettas as bad as I read or are there options I need to choose or not choose to improve reliability?

How do I avoid getting a lemon?

Any thoughts? Thanks...

if you're looking at a new car, the cost of repairs is irrelavant as it would have a warranty of some sort. as far as the lemon thing goes, every manufacturer rolls out a bad apple here and there.

Warranties are only good for 3 years, though, while I plan on owning the car for at least 8...

well since you'll have free maintenance for 09 models you shouldn't be spending anything for the car for the first 3 years and on top of that you'll be able to tell if it's a lemon or not within the first 3 months. If that's the case then just re-sell it. TDI's hold their value very well so it'll be easy to sell it to someone else.
