Maintenance costs for the Jetta TDI are fairly reasonable, especially if you factor in the free maintenance for the first 3/36. The fuel filter needs to be replaced every 20k. The filter runs $37.25. The 2.0 TDI does not require a particulate filter replacement as part of scheduled maintenance. The particulate filter is contained within the catalyst which is designed to burn off the particulates, not trap them. This engine does require special "low ash" engine oil that meets VW spec 507.00. This is very important as the ash burnoff from a regular synthetic will clog the particulate filter. Other than that, the timing belt replacement interval is 110K. Normal maintenance should not be much if any more than a comparable gas powered Jetta. Hope this answers your questions.
