Smile Should I buy dealership's undercarriage protection for my 2010 Golf?

Thanks in advance for allowing me to be part of your community!

I purchased my third new VW today, having owned a 1995 Jetta III, and a 2001 Beetle Sport. Today I purchased a 2010 Golf, and I am very, very impressed with the 2.5 liter, 5cyl engine's power-vs.-fuel-efficiency ratio, and the overall feel of the car on the road. I got the 5 speed, and after having driven an automatic 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck for the past few years, it feels GREAT, I mean GREAT to have a 5-speed manual with some git-up-and-go once again.

My question is this... My dealership claims that there is little to no undercarriage protection on VW's out of the box, and they want to sell me a paint-sealer/undercarriage protection/upolstery protection package for around $600. I have until the end of the month to purchase it. Is it true that there's no undercarriage protection out of the box? Should I consider this add-on protection?

Thanks again, and I'd love to be able to apply the $600 toward some allow wheels instead! Best to all.

Professor.

Professor,

VW wouldn't offer a 12 year, unlimited mile warranty against corrosion perforation if there was no protection. As far as paint sealant/upholstery protector, that's completely up to you. I can tell you that this is an extremely lucrative profit center for the dealer. (Cost is around $150.00 total) I'm not saying don't purchase it, just don't make your decision based on misleading information. Congrats on the new Golf and welcome to the forum!

Default Thanks again, Craig...

I sorta figured as much. Every vehicle I've ever had, VW's included, had a good bit of undercarriage protection. I live in a snowy climate in the winter months, and they drop that salty-chemical mess all over the roads. Still, will an occasional winter wash including the underside, I would think I'd be ok.

Kinda struck me like an extended warranty-type offer, I'll admit.

Default PS...

For what it's worth to anyone out there with a similar question, my local VW service manager just called me on another matter and I asked him point-blank about the undercarriage issue. He agreed with you, Craig, 100% and went on to say that VW really goes above and beyond some other makers with undercarriage protection.

Looks like I may have an extra $600 to spend on rims on your site after all!

Thanks again.

Professor.

I say no, cause if you take care or your car you wont need it, although I just priced out fixing the tear in my leather seat. They wanted 500 bucks!!!!
