"lil' critter" takes 2nd & retains points lead
Its been a while since I've been able to attend a race at MVS this season, but the Garris family certainly doesn't need my presence to be successful. Mike & Jay have been hard at work every week tuning & tweeking the "VWF/Your Auto Source" Jetta and it appears that they've been making positive improvements. The car is noticably faster than last year, and when you combine that with Mike's superior driving skills only good things can happen....and happen they did.
In the 10 lap qualifier Mike wasted no time. He got the #44 car out in front by the 5th lap and held that position, uncontested, 'till the checkered flag dropped. Mike started in 8th position for the 20 lap main event. By lap #3 the Jetta was running with the top 5 cars and Garris was on the move. Mike used traffic to his advantage and put himself in a winning position(...on the back bumper of leader Dave Freundt) by the 8th lap. But Freundt wouldn't go down easily. He kept his #24 Honda in front of Mike, not allowing an inside hole or fast outside lane for the #44 to get by. Mike pressed the Honda for the remainder of the race, but Freundt brought it in for a clean win. But yet another good thing happened to the Garris family & crew on Saturday night. Mike Garris Sr. drove his `55 Chevy to and impressive & hard fought victory in the Street Stock class. Mike Sr. is retiring from the sport after this season which made this win that much more special to everyone involved.(Heck, they even let me be in the victory photo!!) Now its very clear to me were Mike Jr. aquirred his racing skills. A special THANKS to the entire Garris family for a wonderful night of racing.....I just wish I could be there every weekend.  peace, brenshlus PS - Thanx for the #44 hat, Jay!!! Now i'm stylin'!!

Thats great news Bill! I'm glad to hear that the Garris family is doing well. They deserve it with all the hard work they put into the cars.
