Sounds like it. Do you get a light on in the dash that looks like a car with a key pointing at it?

Mine: 20th AE GTI, BMP, 133k, 3" Turbo back, Stage 2 Unitronic
His: '16 GLI SE 6MT

Yes. Took it to the. Dealer and got the key re-programmed for $125

Now it's got a transmission problem..

Will not shift out of third gear. I can manually put it in 1st, then 2nd and third, but it won't shift into 4th or downshift while in D3 or D4....

Is my transmission serviceable? Can I change the filter and fluid?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like its in limp mode. You need to get the car scanned for codes with a VW scanner like VCDS.
