I know almost nothing about lancers/evos other than that I think they've got funky looking rear ends.
Anyways, what do these spikey things do? ![]() Vortex generators? Antennas? Bird castrators? Skids to slow down car if it flips over? Laser-death ray rear defroster?

well, they are exactly that...
vortex generators.... the function of these in high downforce applications is to clean up the air that will then go over a "useful" rear wing. I for one am not a fan of the evo or sti rear wings (hence why my sti has a small wrx wing on it)... although the evo wing is atleast stiff enough and doesnt bounce like the sti one.... regardless... F1, ChampCar, etc... used to put vortex generators under the rear wing of the cars to clean up the air and make the flow more efficient on the underside of the wing.... we've seen lots of aero tricks at the track, like cutting the rear "gurney" flap (or vertical trailing edge piece of a wing) cut like alligator teeth, which effectively minimizing drag while adding downforce. anyway.... there is one on our evo mr... do i feel the difference... no lol cb
