Default I am a traitor........................

Yep. No more VAG for now...............

Well it has finally come time to get rid of the Jetta. It now has 106k miles on it, and it has definately served its purpose.

Criteria for the new car was as follows:

HAD to be AWD or 4WD (it snows a LOT up here and I am in Vermont every other weekend)
4 doors
turbo..........of course
less than 4 years old
less than $20k
less than 20k miles
25mpg on the highway or better
had to have LOTS of room inside.........I do a lot of camping/canoing and road trips. All of my family lives out of state so I am gone almost every weekend. Room for bags and such is critical, and I really wanted a car I could put a canoe on top of and not look like a tard.

That didn't leave much to pick from, basically Audi, VW, or Subaru. There is a very few Audi's and VW's to pick from in this price range out there, and the insurance is higher on them. I was really looking closely at a Passat similar to DB's, however honestly with all the camping and stuff like that we do, it really didn't make sense to have such a luxury car. Also, even though gas mileage is great in the 1.8T, I really don't think it is the ideal motor to have in a 3500lb awd car (read........slow as balls unless modified). I really want to try to stay away from modding cars too for a while until I own a house.....it is a sickness so I really just want to stay away and get something I will be happy with bonestock for a few years that will still be fun to drive.

This is what I ended up with.........I got a steal on it. I still haven't picked it up yet, it is in Connecticut and it will be a week or so before I am actually driving it. I did put down a deposit today though and finish the loan approval.

2004 - 6100 miles on it now - 5 speed - Bonestock

I don't think I am gonna do a thing to it other than buy the rubber cargo area tray and floormats. Maybe someday I will get software for it, but honestly I don't think it makes sense anymore for me to be modding cars until I own a house.

I can't wait for it to snow......... It has been a while since I did some 4 wheel drifts.

Thanks guys. Can't wait to be driving it....hopefully it snows like hell once I get it. Yes, this is pretty much what SLaab has....his is the Saab version though and probably has a little nicer interior and gadgets.

NICE WAGON!

Since you got WR Blue Pearl (best color), you'll have to get gold STi rims

or else just put a rainbow sticker on it now.

it's called WR Blue Pearl after the WRC Blue used on WRC cars.

Well I picked the car up in CT last weekend on Saturday. It was located in New London. The car is awesome, damn near as quick as my Jetta was when it had all the bolt ons. The AWD is awesome.......I can't explain how much more fun it is to drive AWD than FWD. I got to drive in some snow too earlier this week, and it is truly awesome in the snow. The suspension is already pretty damn stiff from the factory, I would say this car handles stock as well as my Jetta did w/ Koni's and H&R Sports. It could use a RSB that is adjustable to help dial in a little less understeer. Other than this, the car is out of the box really really nice. The best thing about it is the OEM rear LSD. It is awesome to pound on the car and start to lose traction and feel that LSD regaining traction. I have a couple back roads around here with enough view that you can really work a car in the twisties and know no one is around. I managed to break the car loose in the top of second gear (50-60mph) going around, and feeling the AWD drift and the LSD regaining traction will definately make your pulse increase a bit.

In short.......it has been a REALLY long time since I had a car that I really loved to drive. I have one again, plus it gets great gas mileage, and I can fit tons of stuff in the back of it. The car is ugly, but fun, fast, and practical for now. I also don't feel like I am doing something horrible if the Suby is dirty......its already ugly so who cares if it is clean?

I will always be a VW guy at heart, this is just a bit more practical for now.

The only thing I see myself getting aftermarket for it is crossbars for the factory roof rack to put a canoe on, and the roll up cover for the cargo area to hide stuff from people looking in the hatch.
