Thanks guys. Except for the '75 every one of them has been driven in the past three months and I keep insurance on all of them. Eventually the '75 will be road worthy and the Bimmer should be done in the next couple months.

I may need to add another 4dr baby carrier before too long. Still not sure what though. Probably a B3/4 Passat Wagon.

Sick collection, especially the Audi. I think my uncle from Holland might have been rockin' in one of those in the 70's.

The engine choice in the E34 was easy. They were horribly under powered from the factory and all Tourings in the US had autos so it was quite slow.

The LS1 swap has been documented into several chassis (not an E34 though) so the knowledge base to pull from was huge when it came to things like wiring and setting up the fuel system. Being all aluminum it's within 15lbs of the M50 I-6 that came out of the car. It was rated at 345hp in stock form, is totally reliable and easily modded or it can be left stock and still haul some serious ass. Oh... and it'll still pull 22-25mpg which is all I was getting out of the 2.5L.

But when it comes down to it... we weigh our options like so...

M50B25 (stock) - 189hp/181ftlbs
S52B32 - 240hp/236ftlbs - $2800
S54B32 - 333hp/262ftlbs - $7000
LS1 - 345hp/365ftlbs - $2700

Other BMW engine options like the S38 M5 engine, euro S52/54 and M6x V8s were out of the question due to pricing and difficulty finding parts. Plus the LS1 is well supported in the aftermarket and capable of 1000hp+ using the stock block... all with stuff I can order from this chair. It's a cam, valvesprings, converter and PCM flash from running low 12s and the local parts store carries all the gaskets, seals, etc (I bought a pair of water pump gaskets today for $1.40 at a parts store within three miles of my shop). My wife can drive it and it'll sit in traffic happily all day. I can't bitch.

The work I'm doing on the swap is pretty top notch too. I'll probably make some kind quick/dirty build thread for it when it's close to done so the quality of the fab work can be seen.

Well if you're doing all the work yourself I have no doubt the work is top notch If the fab work is anything like your 16v turbo manifolds, I'm sure it's a work of art!
