Default SoncJet's 96 Jetta GLX

Owner Member Name: Brian & Rachel S.
Year: 1996
Make: VW
Model: Jetta GLX
Color: Sequoia Green w/ Tan Leather

Summary of the car:

I bought this to replace my aging mk2 last year, and wish I would have gotten a VR Sooner. It is my daily driver, and has somewhere around 125k on it right now. It’s nothing special, nothing out of the ordinary.

About the only things semi-major things I really would like to do yet –
* smoked ecodes
* to maybe lower it a little – nothing crazy, possibly
* add a skidplate if it goes any lower
* respray the front end – the hood clearcoat is peeling off from an old respray at one point
* swap out a gl decklid with all red tails instead of the winged glx version I have now.

Pictures:
the day after i bought it

end of winter

pretty much as it sits now (need to get pics with the moldings and bumpers & hopefully the flares soon)

Engine Specs:
2.8 VR6 – bone stock
Custom Bent 2-1/2” catback w/ 3” s.s. tip (Old Gold in Fontana rocks!!)
Stainless Steel Magnaflow Muffler

Suspension & Wheels

Stock Suspension, although everyone tells me it seems lowered
16” Early BBS RXii’s w/ 205/45 rubber

Exterior Specs:

GTI Front end swap
Stock GTI headlights (for now)
FK Badgeless Grille (in need of some green paint)
Smoked Side Markers
Laminex Tinted Turns / Dummies / Fogs
Euro VR6 lip
Debadged Decklid
Ghetto Textured bumpers
Textured side molding
Textured euro flares (just need to find time to install)
Trek roof rack with bike trays

Interior Specs:
Basically all stock except for
Light tint on the windows - not to much to stand out, but enough to look a little different
MK4 Monster Mats
Old School Alpine CD Player w/ green illumination
Redlinegoods Leather shift and ebrake boots
MK4 shift knob
Graco Highback Boosters
Little Tree Strawberry Air Fresheners

Notable Acomplishments:
yea… about that. I do have the wheels off of a Waterfest Winning Corrado (if that counts)

Comments:
I never learned until one day at the gas pumps that the fuel door locks with the doors – who knew?!? Ha ha! I thought something was jammed, until it dawned on me.

it may get dropped... prob. not though. i'm pretty content with how it sits right now. i'm not all about being pan scraping low

it's amazing how a simple stock oem wheel can look when it's on a different car. on mk4's they look - ehhh. but you throw the same ones on a mk3 and it's a world of difference.

they used to be longhair's brian - and theres a bit of a story behind them and how i ended up with them

[long sotry] they came unofficially up for sale one day when i was talking with justin - and i really liked them - i told rachel about them and got the from her. but she eventually gave in, and said to go check them out and see what i think - and find out what he wanted for them. so i go, check them out and they're sweet. he knows where every mark on them ever came from, but all in all, i dont think i could have seen a better set of used wheels. so i go home... tell her about them and that is that. it goes a week or so, i'm ready to get them and something came up that took higher priority (i think it was heat for the house) anyways - it got put on hold.

i got up one morning to come to work - find a note saying "take my car and put gas in it, i took the jetta" - ok no biggie - there is an issue with the wagon, and putting gas in is a royal PITA (story for another day) so i go about my way.

i meet a bunch of cepa guys for lunch, even longhair and his brother were there. cool. everyone is making fun of me for having to take the passat and put gas in it. but it happens, i dont care.

i go thru the rest of the day, and ended up going out to gilligans after work, and dont get home till like 9 or so. round the corner to the driveway and i was like WTF?!?!? there sits the jetta with the bbs on it.

here - when she told me to go check them out - she had already talked to justin about buying them, he just wanted me to look at them, and point out any issues i may have (which i didnt) to make 100% sure i wanted them.

the day i had to "put gas in the passat" - she had it set up with justin to stop over after she got off work for him to even install them on the jetta - and the SOB never said a word to me, or even made me think twice. i had no idea that rachel and justin were scheming behind my back the whole time.

so that was my b-day present for this year - not bad, not bad at all [/end long wheel story]
