So when the car initially got rained on, my wife had it at a restaurant, and we couldn't get it to start to get home. That's when I noticed the water built up in the rear floor behind the drivers seat. So that was probably the first time it got powered on while wet. I had the car towed to the house (thankfully that was cheap, $50). The next day, I went out to see if it would start, and it did. That was probably the 2nd time it got powered on while wet.
Today, it wouldn't power up at all, looks like the battery is dead. So, I'll give it a shot cleaning it. Picked up a can of denatured alcohol, and have some old toothbrushes laying around, so I'm going to clean it as much as I can.
On the upside, at least the VW stealership can get me a replacement within 2~ business days, so if I can't find a used one by Wednesday, I'll order a new one from VW and get that by friday. The car is scheduled to have the steering rack replaced Thursday or Friday anyway, so being completely down this week isn't all that much of an issue.
Once I get it running again, I've got to get it down to a friends shop and blow compressed air through the drain hoses for the sunroof to blow out any blockages. I've already trimmed off the ends inside the door area of the a-pillar, per direction from the VW dealership. The hoses at that end have a lip that got dried up and somewhat sealed together over time, as this car has been in CA all of its life up until 3 weeks ago (eg, never really saw rain).
