2000 Passat - Issues with cabin temperature!

Hello. I have a 2000 Passat with 200,000+KM on it. Recently purchased.
The heat doesn't blow hot and the A/C doesn't blow cold. Not sure if the two issues are related but I am looking for any help I can get!

Extra info: Sometimes the heat will blow warm(ish) if it is only coming from the vents. ie. if I have floor-only heat on, it will be cold air, even if the engine has been running for 20+ minutes. I am a n00b or whatever when it comes to cars so feel free to post any obvious solutions!

PS. I also have some other issues with the car but I am looking to fix the heat ASAP as it is starting to get really freakin' cold outside! any help greatly appreciated!
