2001 Gas milage, help.

Hello, I am new here and need some help or advise. I purchased a 2001 Beetle, only getting 19mpg in town with the air on. Is this normal???

"Normal" can mean alot of different things.

First, what engine is it. How many miles? Have you had it tuned up, changed all the filters, new plugs? How are you driving? Lead foot or gas sipper style?

When we had our beetle, I averaged about 26 in town, my wife averaged 22. She drives like a bat out of hell.

Its even worse in our Passat now, she gets 16 average on most tanks. I get high 20's when I drive it.

Both of those were 1.8Ts

If that in town is alot of congested traffic and you like to accellerate heavily, yea 19 sounds about right.

This one has a 2.0 motor with 98000 mile on it., had a tune up and oil change, we drive rather casual.
