2001 Passat Air Conditioner

The A/C in my car stopped blowing cold here on Saturday I figure since the AC still blows air but just hot air, that it is just out of freon. Am I right that it is just freon and all it needs is recharge?

If it is a recharge, any link to how I can do it myself?

While at it I am thinking of changing the cabin air filter and the airfilter; any suggestions of good quality filters and where to get them? Instructions on changing them would help especially the air filter.

So I tried to fix the AC problem by trying to recharge with freon, however the freon would not flow neither would the gauge give any reading this is after trying with two separate cans and gauges. I did however note that he AC clutch did not engage.

Any suggestion on what I can do?

If your AC relay and fuse are good, and the R134 level is good, AC clutch is usually the culprit on symptoms like this

As for filter, it is easy to change -it is in the rain tray in your engine bay left of your ECU.

You have to undo the plastic cowlings that cover the rain tray (where you wipers attach to) The filter is all the way left. It has a plastic screen that you unbolt to pull out the filter. As for brands -Im not sure -I just went with an OEM one from a German Parts store Online.

I never gave a damn about the meterman,...

-til I was the one who had to read the meter....
