Default 2001 Passat Auto Trans fluid level??

Is there a way to check and fill the automatic transmision fluid level on a 2001 4cyl Passat wagon? The pan is smashed up a bit and might have a small leak. Also if it gets to low is there an dash light that comes on?

Yes. In addition to the drain plug, there is an inspection/fill plug. ATF is added from below, using a system similar to an IV drip in a hospital.

There is no warning light for low fluid. You need to do a full pan drop with filter and fluid replacement ($300). If the pan's mating surface with the rest of the transmission is no longer perfectly planar, you will need a new pan, as well.
