A bunch of air bubbles have been showing up on my radio's buttons and on the buttons on the door. Why? A friend drives a 2006 Passat as well and he has the same problem. Manufacturing defect? Please help.
If you still have a warranty on that beast get it replaced asap. If not, check for heat and/or prolonged exposure to sunlight. It sounds like a long shot, but what else could it be?

Very common. Hopefully you are still within the warranty period. If you are within the 4 year/50K, get it to the dealer. If out of warranty, ask the service manager if he can get Volkswagen to "goodwill" the repair. Worst case, give me a shout.
It's out of warranty. Volkswagen said that because it is a documented history of the issue, they do not consider it a defect and claim that they will not repair it. The Dealership said because it's to of warranty they will not fix it. When did the warranty program become like a insurance HMO? No insurance/warranty=you're screwed.
The Dealer said that they don't sell individual parts and that I'd have to replace the whole radio--which costs $1300!!! for that much i can go to Best Buy and get top-of-the-line,touch-screen,navigation stereo and navigation system. They're insane!
I have a used radio that I can sell for $150.00 plus shipping. I also have the newer style with the silver buttons that I can sell for $175.00 plus shipping. I also have the door lock buttons for around $23.00. PM me if I can help.
whatever you do, make sure you at least hold onto a oem stereo for the diagnostic reasons at the dealership....I just about ran into a problem with that a while ago..... I'd get a newer deck and throw the oem one in the trunk or in your closet and keep it for future's sake.

I know this is an old thread, but wanted to make sure this issue was ONLY cosmetic? Are these Locks something you can buy & replace yourself, or do you have to do it at the dealer?
