Default 97 VW Passat, Replacing Ignition Switch Problems

I can't pull the steering column out. I followed a "DIY" and first removed the nut and bolt at the U joint at the bottom of the shaft. Then it said to disconnect all connections. Then it said to pull out a GOLD pin on the column and remove with vise grips. I don't see any gold round headed bolt. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Josh

Hello and welcome to the forums Josh.

First, can you let us know what DIY you are referring to?

Thanks,

Mike

Josh,

Are you replacing the ignition switch or the cylinder and keys? If you are replacing the ignition switch, there should be no need to remove or even unbolt the steering column. The ignition switch snaps into the back side of the steering lock housing. Let us know specifically what you are replacing and we'll help as best we can.
