Default 98 Passat Turbo trouble

I just had the head placed in my passat and now I have no power. The rpms are low under 10 in neutral and I have to get up to almost 50 to even shift and keep a good speed? Any ideas whats wrong?

Try explaining that again, I dont quite follow?

Head placed on? 10 = 1000? Low under it? 50=5,000rpm?

Sorry...yes 1000rpms and 5000rpms

When the car is idling the rpms drop below 1000 and then when I'm shifting 1st thru 4th I have to get the rpms up to almost 5000 before I can shift to keep the rpms above 3000. Does that help?

Maybe i'm still confused, but sounds like a normal 5spd to me. Shift faster?

Ok...my timing belt busted and bent all the valves. I had the head reconditioned and replaced. After hooking everything up again its just not running right. It's not shifting smooth at all...it never ran so low with the rpms and when I shift it fast or not it drops way down...before, I could shift doing 40mph and stay at 40mph and continue to accelerate...now I shift at 40 and drop to 30mph or lower. There is also a weird noise when I push in the clutch. I don't even know how to explain it. I have never worked on this car myself and have no idea where to even begin to look and I'm outta cash to take it back to the machine shop.
