Default Bodywork after deer impact, Airbag warning light now on?

First Post in Time of Need.

I am posting for my girlfriend. She has a 2006 Passat with the four cylinder turbo. A week after she bought it, a deer ran into the passenger side when we were traveling around 50mph. The front door got a new skin put on and the rear was replaced with an entire new door. As soon as she recieved it back, the airbag warning ligh is glowing. No airbag deployed during the impact and she drove it for a few weeks after the incident with no issues.

Will the airbag system show a warning if the door wiring was disconnected and then reconnected, or is there definitely a fault somewhere?

VW wants $90.00 just to check the codes. Is there a chance of a damaged airbag or poor/ lack of connection in the door?

What is the best course of action to take here, pay the $90.00+ to "LOOK" or will this "Vag-Com" work for us? It looks at though its only for cars up to 2004.

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Unfortunately, I would recommend having the codes checked. If you know someone with vag-com, it will likely read the codes. Otherwise, you may have to bite the bullet and go to the dealer. The seatbelts on these cars have an explosive igniter so it is possible that wile the air bag did not deploy, the seat belt may have. It's a one shot deal. It may also be a crash sensor that went bad on impact. From a safety standpoint, get it checked out and if you're lucky, it may just need to be reset.

Good luck,
