Do Passat's only take Premium gas?

Hello. I am sorry if this is an extremely stupid question but I have been looking for a new car because I hate the one I currently drive. I have always been intrigued by the Passat's and would love to get one however with gas prices at what they are I dont want a premium gas car. I did some research a while back and I found that some of the Passat's I found were cars that only took Premium gas. Now I wonder if all Passat's take premium gas. it just seemed like with the number of them I see on the road that they couldnt possibly be all Premium gas cars. So if anyone could clear this confusion up for me it would be very much appreciated.

Honestly i think most cars of any manufacturer reccomend filling with premium, but its not a nessesity. It depends on what engine as well, a 1.8T will get much better milage and performance with higher octane, a vr6 and 2.0 will get increases but not nearly as much and it certainly wouldnt hurt them to run on regular pump gas.
