Question Lost key FOB remote

So the spare has disappeared!

The dealers are quoting the best part of $600 (AUD) to replace

I am getting conflicting info regarding the replacement of the FOB,

Some are claiming that only the manual key is VIN specific and any remote can be coded to open/start the car, others say you can code to open the car but not start it, yet others say you HAVE to get a new FOB specific to the VIN for it to work after coding by the dealer. I see many second-hand FOB's on that well known auction site so it is tempting to buy one however I don't want to wast my time/money if it cant be made to work.

Has anyone her had experience using a second-hand FOB and ACTUALLY making it work?

Check out originalkeylessentry.com I got a remote for 70 bucks (us) plus shipping and all you need to do is buy the key itsself and you can activate it your self but sticking the new key in your ignition and sticking your valet key in the doorlock and turning it like your loccking your car
then press the unlock button on your remote for 3 seconds and the press it for 3 more and your car should beep if it does your remote is activated

There are many on ebay but there are doubts that they can be programmed to start another car... Apparently easy to code to lock/unlock doors but the immobiliser is a whole 'nother story. Still trying to get to the bottom of this...

any remote can be programmed and if they are bad send them back just make sure the store you buy it from on ebay has a return policy. You will still need to buy a the key part from a dealer though.

Originalkeyless do have FOBs but they are the US 4 button type that are 315Mhz. I require the 3 button 434Mhz unit.

Still not convinced it is "that easy" to program the FOB in the later model Passat's et al. Sorry but I am yet to actually find someone that even claims they have done it let alone prove they have...

The search continues...

thanks anyway for your contribution
