Hi. I have a 1997 Vr6 Automatic Passat. It runs great - except that it goes through transmissions. I bought it in June of 07. The mechanic had just replaced the transmission with a 95. It didn't run right after awhile (slipped gears, chugged when pulling out or going uphill, slammed into gear, then finally quit shifting almost altogether). So one month ago he put a new tranny in (97 this time). Up until the past week, it ran GREAT. Now it is starting its slipping again, slips when I am going downhill and have my foot pressed on the gas, slips when its going down the highway and throughout town. I am very frustrated with this car it has been in the shop multiple times to get this problem figured out and putting in a new transmission was the last resort. The person who owned this vehicle dumped over 2 grand into the tranny alone before selling it to the VW mechanic that put the 95 tranny in and sold it to me. If anyone has ANY suggestions or have had a similar case, I would be so happy to hear from you because my mechanic is at his wits end and so am I. Thanks!
***I took it to the garage YET AGAIN today and found out it may be a cylanoid...however, I'm thinking there is yet another problem with the computers. please let me know if u know anything!
