Default New 1.8T Passat

Hey guys been lurking here for awhile now. I just bought a 99, 1.8t Passat and this car is alot of firsts for me. My first 5 spd, My first Turbo, and my first VDub. My plans once I get it are to throw some nice 16s on it and a set of coilovers and lower it nicely. Then drive around for a year while I save and plan my next mods.

Unfortunately the PO decided to paint the running boards and the grill silver so I'm gonna have to fix all that along with a couple other ghetto mods that were performed. I've been looking around but haven't noticed alot of exterior mods available for this car? or can the A4 exterior mods or strut bars be used??

Well first welcome to secondally always glad to see more Passat members. That is crazy how that dude painted the valanaces and skirts silver...good move changing it back. If anything maybe respray to color match the car.

Here's my piece http://www.vwforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23034

A4 parts should cross-over fairly seemlessly.

Holy crap your Dub is sweet man. Yeah I also noticed that the Passat and Jetta look exactly alike so what about exterior mods for the Jetta I could probably use those too? I'm also on PassatWorld so I got some info there. I'm definately getting it painted back to body matched color. I'm probably going to change the grill so I wont have to worry about that and there are some other ghetto mods I've found today that I'll have to remedy also.

I wanted to ask where do you get these monster mats someone was telling me about? and would the Phat 5s fit the passat?

Jetta parts wont fit to well. Look a little closer, the jetta is squared in the front and back compared to the passat.

Passats = Audi
TT = VW

Your engine code should be AEB if it is an early 99 production. (AEB is the best of all the 1.8t's)

Without delay, First thing any of us on here would recomend is a Chip and DV combo

APR Racing
GIAC
are the two most common chips used. Look to gain ~45hp and 80lbtq for only 400$.

Yeah I've been looking at the GIAC and had the chip in mind as my first mod. I'll have to check the engine code as soon as I get it home to see. OK cool I like the look of the phat 5's but I have other rims in mind. Forgive my ingnorance but what's DV???

You misunderstood my vw=audi statement but ok.

DV is a diverter valve. With the added boost the stock one is known to leak.

OK cool I'll do some research on the DV, well I don't usually ask if things fit it was just a quick question if I decide to see how the phat 5's look I'll try em but I have other rims in mind. I mostly wanna make sure all the regular maintenance is done before I even start modding. The coilovers and rims are first though.

OK well I was just wondering out loud if a set of TT Phat 5s would fit on a passat? and by the way what is the widest that could go on a Passat I'm seeing people with 8" wide is that common? or is that with fenders rolled?

Fat 5s are 5x100. they don't fit. You need 5x112, any other wheel from the audi line fits (A4, A6, A. TT wheels don't fit Passats.

The offset of the wheel is more important than the width, for getting a wheel to fit.

BTW, your lower body panels were never body color, they were textured black plastic. I assume the guy did no prep work before painting them silver, so make sure the prep work is done properly if you get them painted body color.

I'll try my first statement again.

VW minus passats are 5x100
Audis minus TT's are 5x112

TT's are built on the golf platform and are more vw than audi.
Passats have alot of audi parts and are more audi then vw.

You can fit 9,10" if the tiresize and offset is right.

Alright thanks guys this is new info to me, ok now I understand your previous statement about TT=VW and so on. Yeah the previous owner just spray canned the lower body and grill so when I get it body matched it will be prepped properly and painted body matched. I have some ideas for rims already the Phat 5s was just a quick idea nothing concrete. I am learning alot though, I gotta get a manual this weekend.

It's been awhile I even forgot my password so I had to make a new name anyway I've picked up a few things along the way and thought I might update the thread.

Final shot

Door panel

I always wondered why the entire side mirror is not color matched maybe that's just my preference but anyway I completed the look to my taste.

What you don't see is the Forge DV, K&N drop in filter, Oil change with Mann filter, W8 belly pan, replaced the sparkplugs with NGK. I still have the B5.5 center console, boost gauge waiting to go in along with alot of other stuff I'm ordering
